TRAUMA AND ORTHOPAEDIC DEPARTMENT

LOCALLY EMPLOYED SENIOR CLINICAL FELLOW (Registrar level) 

 

We are currently developing a new clinical offer, which reflects the changing needs of our patients and will deliver the care that really makes a difference to our local communities. And we want you to help us shape and deliver it.

 

 

 

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a full-time Locally Employed Senior Clinical Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust – to be based at Royal Derby Hospital.  Our Derbyshire location means we can offer areas of outstanding natural beauty for making the most of your leisure time, as well as vibrant, family-friendly communities and easy access to major cities. In short, we love it here, and we want you to join us.

The post is for a fixed term period of 12 months with the possibility of an extension for a further 12 months.

Applicants must have full GMC registration and hold a licence to practice at time of application.

The applicant will be encouraged to undertake research and audit. Candidates should have MRCS or equivalent and have sufficient experience to undertake simple trauma/elective cases with limited supervision.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Our main hospital, Royal Derby Hospital, is within easy travelling distance of Derby city centre and there are lots of attractive village communities and excellent schools for those looking to settle with a family. Derby has excellent transport links to nearby cities, including Birmingham and Nottingham, and East Midlands Airport is 20 minutes away.

The post is integral to the functioning of all elements of this service that prides itself on excellent clinical outcomes and patient care. So, we are looking for candidates that can make an immediate contribution to the functioning of the service and the right candidate will be fully supported to enable this.

The department comprises of 27 Consultants undertaking Spinal, Elective & Trauma Orthopaedic work. We have specialists in hand, shoulder, elbow & foot surgery as well as knee & hip replacement surgery.

The department is also fortunate to have access to 8 laminar flow theatres on the Derby campus and a new treatment centre on the Queens Hospital Burton campus. The department also provides outpatient services at St Oswalds Ashbourne, Ilkeston Hospital, Ripley Hospital and Heanor hospital.

Essential criteria
  • • 2 yrs in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty within the NHS.
Desirable criteria
  • 2 yrs experience in Trauma & Orthopaedics

Eligibility

Essential criteria
  • • Evidence of Full GMC registration, with a licence to practise, at time of application

Clinical Governance/Improving Quality of Patient Care

Essential criteria
  • • Demonstrates understanding of the principles of research;
  • • Evidence of interest & experience in teaching junior doctors & medical students;
  • • Evidence of active participation in audit
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of relevant academic & research achievements relevant to Trauma & Orthopaedics

Qualifications

  • • MRCS/MBBS or equivalent
