Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the in-house legal team at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

An experienced legal or medical secretary is required to provide an efficient support legal secretarial service for the members of the Legal Services Department. NHS or legal secretarial experience desired and a strong advantage.

Main duties of the job

Duties will include a high volume of audio typing, telephone enquiries, diary management and various administrative tasks.

The in-house legal team currently consists of six lawyers, a PA and a Legal Secretary. We provide advice to the Trust and its clinicians on all aspects of health law.

Knowledge Training & Experience

Essential criteria
  • RSAIII/Word Processing or equivalent experience and audio typing experience
  • Knowledge of medical and/or legal terminology
  • Experience working in a busy office enviroment

Communication and Relationship

Essential criteria
  • Proven track records demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with NHSR, external Solicitors, staff within the hospital, Claimants/patients and other healthcare providers

Planning & Organisational Sills

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience managing demanding diaries and arranging multi party meetings
  • Experience demonstrates ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with frequent interruptions

Analytical & Judgemental Skills

Essential criteria
  • Experience acting as a first point of contact for clients
  • Experience demonstrates an ability to answer client concerns with skill and sensitivity and the ability to exercise judgement when dealing with problems that require analysis
