Job overview

An opportunity has arisen within the IT Server Team to recruit a Senior IT Server Engineer, to cover a 12 month secondment. The role will primarily consist of supporting the server side infrastructure including upgrades, BAU support and project work. You will be also be responsible for the configuration of new hardware and software as required.

You will be confident in your IT skills and be able to demonstrate experience in an enterprise IT  server support environment.

The post will be based at Royal Derby Hospital, with potential for travel to other UHDB hospital sites required.

Main duties of the job

The Senior IT Server Team Engineer will be responsible for supporting the IT Datacentre Infrastructure including Windows Server Systems, Virtualisation Services, Storage Systems and Backup and Recovery Services, in line with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and in accordance with appropriate standards. The post holder will work closely with other teams within IM&T and suppliers to ensure that the IT infrastructure remains highly available and accessible to the business.

The post holder is required to take part in the on-call scheme operated via a rota system.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Degree level in IT or with significant IT Security experience
  • Relevant Qualification in IT Server Infrastructure technologies
  • In depth knowledge of Server and Operating System technologies
  • Sound analytical approach to technical problems
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act, GDPR and of the need for confidentiality in the handling of patient-based information

Communications and Working Relationships

Essential criteria
  • Ability to supervise junior staff
  • Good communication skills verbal/written with the ability to convey nd ideas in an understandable manner to colleagues and supplier.
