An excellent opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic Consultant Cardiologist to join a current team of 15 highly performing and productive consultant colleagues at the University Hospitals Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. Subspecialty interests are, Heart failure and complex devices. A. The successful applicant(s) will help in development of services within the remit of their sub-specialist interest with opportunities to develop research interests.
University Hospitals Derby & Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) was formed from the merger of Derby Teaching Hospitals and Burton Hospitals, on 1st July 2018. The new Trust is, due to our scale and combined expertise, a major regional and national player with a core ambition to deliver world class care to our population, becoming an international exemplar provider.
Derby is located at the heart of the UK being the most central city with easy access to road, rail and air travel (London is 90 minutes away by train) and a great base to explore the nearby Peak District delights. It is home to some of the world's greatest engineering companies such as Rolls-Royce and Toyota, making Derby the UK's most hi-tech city.
The Derby and Burton Heart centre is one of the largest non-surgical units in the UK with a catchment more than 1m population throughout Derbyshire and East Staffordshire. The UHDB offers state of the art facilities for investigation and management of cardiac disease. Two modern cardiac catheterization laboratories at derby site deliver 24/7 PPCI and 1050 PCI p.a with IVUS, OCT, rotablation, IABP, Complex Devices and CTO programme. A third catheter laboratory at Burton site is dedicated for diagnostic angiography and Brady pacemaker implantation. There are plans to expand complex device service with extra lab capacity in hybrid vascular theatre one day a week (starting Jan 2022). UHDB benefits from a large and busy clinical measurement department fully accredited for trans-thoracic echocardiography by the British Society of Echocardiography with expanding TOE and DSE services. The cross-sectional cardiac imaging services are provided in partnership with radiology department with modern CT and MRI scanners. There is a 13-bedded coronary care unit, day-case unit and a 32-bedded dedicated cardiology ward. A full range of medical specialties are available across. We enjoy excellent relationships and MDT meetings with the regional cardiothoracic centres at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester and Trent Cardiac centre, Nottingham. We are a major teaching centre for medical undergraduates from the University of Nottingham with an excellent record of recruitment to NIHR portfolio cardiovascular clinical trials.
The successful Heart failure/devices candidate will, in addition to developing a general and interventional cardiology practice, join 3 existing consultants in developing our expanding heart failure services including ambulatory heart failure for East Staffordshire patients. The successful candidate will develop a busy general cardiology practice and support rapidly expanding heart failure services, while developing a sub-speciality clinical interest in cardiac rhythm devices. Responsibilities will include a 1:8 or 1:10 on-call rota for general cardiology including management of patients on CCU and the dedicated cardiology ward. There is no general medicine commitment for post.
As a merged organisation we expect flexibility to be able to work across all sites of University Hospitals of Derby and Burton Foundation Trust should the need arise.
