The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB) is looking to appoint its new Associate Director of Communications. Reporting to the CEO, the role will involve working with our wider leadership team, our system partners, our communities and our workforce to improve both the care we deliver for our patients and the experience and wellbeing of the people that work at UHDB, through our Vision ‘Exceptional Care Together’.
The Associate Director is an impactful position that will support our workforce engagement and the embedding of our values, Compassion, Excellence and Openness, across the Trust.
In addition to providing professional and expert communications advice and guidance to the CEO, leadership team and Board, you will hold a key role in ensuring that we collectively drive a compassionate and inclusive culture and approach for all our colleagues, particularly those that have traditionally been excluded or left behind.

Main duties of the job
University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) invite applications from innovative and creative thinkers for the post of Associate Director of Communications and Engagement.
We are looking for an innovative and creative thinker as the professional lead responsible for all aspects of expert advice on communications and engagement at UHDB.
You must be able to evidence significant strategic communications and engagement experience that blends internal/external communications, media relations, digital communication, web and intranet management and corporate communications, all gained in a large and complex organisational context.
A key part of this role will be to advise and support the Trust Board on communication strategies to support our vision and values, raise our organisational profile, whilst minimising any risk to our reputation.
Applicants will be educated to degree level or equivalent with a PR/communications qualification at masters level, or have equivalent experience gained at the same level
Closing Date: 30th June 2022
Interviews will comprise of stakeholder panels on the 13th July and an interview on 14th July 2022.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are keen to attract candidates who can lead on whole system communication and engagement with all Derbyshire and Staffordshire system partners to ensure that population health management is championed as part of collective communications and engagement activity.
You will facilitate effective two-way communication channels for a variety of audiences, ranging from patients, service users and carers, to our 13,500 multi-site colleagues, foundation trust members and our governors, as well as local/national media, MPs, and partner organisations, valuing their different perspectives and contribution.
Lead and manage the communications team to ensure their personal and professional development as well offer support to maintain team morale and a high sense of health & wellbeing.
You will also be responsible in this influential role for leading the Communications team in representing our values and setting the tone and culture within the team, by driving inclusion and leading to make a difference, particularly for our colleagues who are traditionally excluded or left behind.

- Degree or equivalent in relevant subject
- Recognised PR/Communications qualification - Masters or equivalent experience/training
- Significant experience in communications or related field
- Significant experience/proven track record of digital presence, connecting board and staff (particularly over large geographical areas
- Substantial writing, editing, and design communications experience
- Knowledge of PR/Comms, journalism and marketing
