Job overview

The Estates & Facilities Department at Queens Hospital Burton are looking for a dynamic individual to work alongside professionals who care about delivering a first class service. Quality and patient care is paramount, and the Estates & Facilities Team ensure the best service is given. Having specific objectives and responsibilities, the successful applicant will have a fundamental knowledge of health care estates maintenance procedures and priorities.

Able to work as part of a team or on your own initiative, you will be expected to provide a flexible and efficient repair and maintenance service over a wide range of services, mechanical plant and equipment within a wide range of locations and complex conditions from Wards and Theatres to manufacturing areas and office locations. You should be able to take responsibility and ownership for statutory inspections under your delegated area and keep records ensuring the trust complies with current legislation.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of the team who are responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive maintenance and installation service across the Trust’s Estates, which will be responsive, efficient, financially effective and to a high standard. You should possess good communication skills both written and verbal and be prepared to participate in an on-call rota.

The ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative is essential and you will be expected to provide a flexible and efficient service to cover a wide range of mechanical and electrical plant and equipment in varied locations. In particular, you should have an in-depth knowledge of complex domestic water and Heating and Ventilation systems.

You will also be required to work flexibly. A working knowledge of current HTM’s would be desirable.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Essential Qualifications are City and Guilds apprenticeship or equivalent course in Mechanical Engineering and Multiskilling in electrical to a minimum of NVQ2 or equivalent. You MUST state clearly in the qualifications section what qualifications you obtain and what level in order to be shortlisted.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Report directly to the Maintenance Supervisor and interface directly with CAFM for the issue and feedback of work on a daily basis.
  2. Record all details of work carried out for statistical and reporting purposes in a manner determined by the Estates Officers and Supervisors which may include CAFM.
  3. Pre-Planned maintenance, testing, breakdown and installation work.
  4. Experience of maintaining Boiler Steam Raising Plant, associated pipework and ancillary equipment.
  5. Low-pressure hot water and domestic hot water steam to water calorifiers and plate heat exchangers.
  6. Air handling plant serving ventilation systems for Laboratory, Theatre and general service areas.
  7. Experience of overhaul of pumps and/or air conditioning systems.
  8. Large variety of medical appliances and equipment, from patient beds to theatre/lab and catering equipment.
  9. Water systems including sanitary ware, fittings and drainage.
  10. Domestic Gas installations and gas appliances
  11. Water Systems and sanitary ware, fittings and drainage.
  12. Pipe fitting in steel and copper and plastic.
  13. Water Filtration and Thermostatic control.
  14. Pipe fitting in steel and copper and polymer.
  15. Installation work on all of the above
  16. Develop designated skills, where agreed with post holder to provide specialist on site knowledge for specific maintenance roles.
  17. Be flexible and adaptable in relation to working hours and provide maintenance cover for the Trust by partaking of an ‘On-Call’ duty rota covering 24/7.
  18. Carry out all duties in compliance with the following statutes and guidance:
  19. Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
  20. Control of Substances Hazardous to Health
  21. Manual Handling
  22. Personal Protective Equipment.
  23. All departmental Policies and Procedures.
  24. Any other relevant guidance.
  25. Basic electrical isolations, testing, fault finding, disconnections, and repairs preferably up to a standard of NVQ level 2
  26. Within a maintenance environment the post holder will occasionally be expected to carry out any reasonable request for which (s)he has received training and is considered competent.
  27. Assist in any other activity where a competent person is in attendance.
  28. Understand the principles of H&S management procedures.
  29. The Post holder will be required to carry various communication devices and use them in way determined by the Maintenance Manager.
