Job overview

There is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Anaesthesia with a special interest in Intensive Care Medicine to join an established, enthusiastic team mainly based at the Queen’s Hospital Burton (QHB).  Our aim is to accommodate specialist interests within Intensive Care and Anaesthesia.

10PA jobs are available with 1.5 SPA. Additional sessions are available on request.

Interview dates will be arranged to suit potential candidates.

Main duties of the job

On call is currently, ITU only with a 1:6 frequency with ambitions to reduce this frequency to 1:8. The unit is well supported by middle grade & trainee cover both in and out of hours.

Candidates wishing to do anaesthetics lists at the Royal Derby Hospital will be accommodated following discussion with the clinical lead.

Working for our organisation

The critical care unit at Queens hospital is undergoing an exciting change. The work forms part of the £5m Critical Care Estates Project at QHB which is planned to complete in September 2021. This will increase the number of critical care beds from 10 to 14 with the provision of state of the art infection control abilities.  The associated medical equipment will feature patient monitor and ventilator integration alongside side our electronic records and electronic prescription platforms. Numerous ultrasound systems are available for bedside use to enhance POC decision making. Renal therapies are delivered with modern citrated anticoagulation modalities. We envisage a significant shift towards enhanced care pathways as suggested by FICM and the opportunity to develop these is unrestricted. We are also aiming to increase the consultant team to offer fully GPICS compliant care standards.
